A long connection through Nairobi can look manageable on a ticket but feel very different after immigration, baggage, traffic and an overnight flight. The better choice depends on time, energy and what happens next.
Count door-to-door time, not only the layover
Airport processing, baggage collection, hotel transfer and the return trip to the terminal can consume several hours. A nominally long layover may leave only a short rest window once the logistics are included.
Consider the next day’s obligations
If the next leg involves a long road journey, family event or business meeting, a proper overnight rest may be more valuable than squeezing in an extra connection while exhausted.
Keep the overnight simple
For one night, proximity, reliable transfer, late check-in and a good bed usually matter more than resort amenities. Choose convenience over turning the stop into a mini-vacation unless you intentionally have the time.
Build margin for the airport return
Traffic and security queues can change. Returning to the terminal with generous margin is especially important for international departures and travelers moving with children or significant luggage.
